Overview

A local card blocker is a type of card blocker that exists only locally in the space. Every space user can see it and add it to a card.

There are also global card blockers and space users can add it to cards too. The difference is that the use of global blockers is supervised at a higher level, and they should address broader issues. Therefore, if you need a blocker that only makes sense in that particular space, use local blockers.

In a space, you can use local, global, and selected predefined card blockers.

  • Local card blocker – this type can be created, deleted, and edited by the space owner. It exists only locally in the space. 
  • Global card blocker – exists in every space in KanBo.
  • Predefined card blocker – can be added to the space by space owners.

Every card blocker can be further specified using a description.

Creating local card blockers

Only space owners can create local card blockers in a space.

To create a local card blocker:

  1. Open the space.
  2. On the space top bar, select More.
  3. In the SPACE SETTINGS section, select  Blocker types.
  4. On the Local section select + Create, and then enter the name of the blocker (and optionally description).
  5. Confirm with the Create button.

Add a description so that users have no doubt in which cases they should use the blocker.

Adding predefined card blockers to spaces

Only space owners can add predefined card blockers in a space.

To add a predefined card blocker to a space:

  1. Open the space.
  2. On the space top bar, select More.
  3. In the SPACE SETTINGS section, select  Blocker types.
  4. On the Predefined section select + Add, and then select the desired blocker.
  5. Confirm with the + Add seleted button.

To remove a predefined card blocker from a space:

  1. Open the space.
  2. On the space top bar, select More.
  3. In the SPACE SETTINGS section, select  Blocker types.
  4. On the Predefined section, hover over the selected blocker, then select More.
  5. Select Remove.

Editing local card blockers

Only space owners can manage local card blockers in a space.

To rename or change a description of a local card blocker:

  1. Open the space.
  2. On the space top bar, select More.
  3. In the SPACE SETTINGS section, select  Blocker types.
  4. Select the blocker, and enter a new name or write a description.
  5. Confirm with the Save button.

Deleting local card blockers

Only space owners can manage card blockers in a space.

To delete a local card blocker:

  1. Open the space.
  2. On the space top bar, select More.
  3. In the SPACE SETTINGS section, select  Blocker types.
  4. Hover over the blocker, and then select More, and then select Delete.

If the blocker to be removed is found to be in use, a message will appear listing the cards that use the blocker. Confirm to continue.

FAQ

Use card blockers. It allows you to block a card and informs you about the problem with the completion of the task. 

Only space owners can create local card blockers in spaces. They can also add predefined blockers to the space by selecting them from global card blockers.

A local blocker is only created and used within a space, while a global blocker is available in every space in KanBo.

You need the Global Settings role to manage global card blockers. Global card blockers can be edited, removed, or created in the KanBo Settings.
