Troubleshooting
Configuring Sync Targets
Overview
All KanBo user groups (user groups and external user groups) have their own sync targets, which synchronize them with SharePoint.
You can add your own sync targets to your groups. This will mean that their members will be synchronized with SharePoint groups (of site collections). You can give any SharePoint group any permission level on any SharePoint objects like document libraries, lists, sites, etc.
To follow the instructions, you need the Setup role.
Adding sync targets to KanBo groups
- Enter the KanBo group that you want to attach to a site collection.
- Select the SharePoint group that you want to synchronize with that KanBo group.
- Go to the Sync targets tab and select + Add sync target.

- If your KanBo group is internal, select SharePoint group sync. If your group is external, select SharePoint external group sync.

- In Target site collection URL, paste the site address of the site collection. If the site collection address is invalid, a message will appear.
- In Target group name paste the name of your user group.
- Select Submit.

- To make sure that users from the KanBo group are synchronized into a SharePoint group, select Resync Users.

Here are the changes to your group in SharePoint:
- Removing users from the KanBo group
- Adding users to the KanBo group
If you remove the sync target from the KanBo Sync targets section, you will also remove the whole SharePoint group from this site collection.
You can delete sync targets by selecting the Remove button.
Giving permissions to document sources from other site collections
You can give permissions to document sources of other site collections to your group. Here’s what to do:
- Attach document sources of other site collections to a KanBo space.
See how to add a document source to a space.
- Enter the KanBo group you would like to attach to a site collection where the document library is located.
- Go to the Sync targets tab section and select + Add sync target.

- Fill in these fields:
- Select SharePoint external group sync.
- In Target site collection URL paste the site address of the site collection.
- In Target group paste the name of your user group.
- Select Submit.
The group will be added to the site collection.

- Select Resync users to make sure that users from the KanBo group will be synchronized into a SharePoint group.

You can now add a user group to a document library of this site collection.
- Go to the site collection and then to the document library of this site.
- Select Library settings.
- In Permissions and Management section, select Permissions for this document library.
If your document library is inheriting permissions from the parent site, you must stop that.
- To do this, go to the Actions Menu and select Edit Permissions.
- Select OK to approve the creation of unique permissions. Read more here.
- Go to the Grant Permission section so that you can give members of the user group permission to access the document library.
- Search for your group and then select Share.
- Select the checkbox with a group, and then select Edit user permissions. This will allow you to give these users the exact permissions that you want.
- Select the permission level, and then select OK.
All members of the KanBo group can now access other document sources added to a space.
When you synchronize your external KanBo group using sync targets, any changes you make to your Active Directory group (like adding or removing users) will also be reflected in the SharePoint groups. New users of the group will have all the same permissions as the SharePoint group.
