Creating Card Templates
This post is also available in: Deutsch
See how to create cards based on the one model card with a defined structure. You can create a card template and customize it like a standard card or use an existing card to create ready to use card template. Card templates are closely related to and created in spaces.
In this article:
Creating new card templates
To create a card template:
- Open the space.
- On the space top bar, go to More (the three-dots menu), then select Settings > Card templates.
- Select + Add.
- Type a name and select Add.
Now you can edit the card template just like a regular card. Add some card elements and details. Any card created from this template will contain them.
Example: Job Position card template with three card elements (note, to-do list, document folder definition) added.
Read more about automatic document folder definition in card templates.
Creating card templates based on existing cards
To create a card template using an existing card:
- Open the card you would like to create a template from.
- On the card top bar, go to More (the three-dot menu), and then select Create template.
- Enter the card template name, and select Create.
Your template is ready to use.
You can make it done faster using Quick Actions.
Note that not every card detail can be included in a card template. The following rules apply to cards created from such a card template:
- features that are copied:
- Card Elements (notes, to-do lists, documents)
- Card Details (only date dependencies and custom fields)
- features that won’t be copied:
- card users
- card status
- card activity stream
- subwork and card relations
Future changes to the card on which the card template is based will not affect the card template.
If the based card has documents, cards created with that card template will also have the same documents attached. They are linked to the same source files. You can check this with document references.
Editing card templates
To edit a card template:
- Open the space.
- On the space top bar, go to More (the three-dots menu), then select Settings > Card templates.
- Select the card template.
- Apply the changes, then close the card.

- Open the space.
- On the space top bar, go to More (the three-dots menu), then select Settings > Card templates.
- Hover over the card template, go to More (the three-dots menu), and then select Remove.
