Card Presence Indicator
This post is also available in: Deutsch
In this article:
Overview
At KanBo, we try very hard to make it possible for everyone to work the way they want to. We provide tools for both asynchronous and synchronous communication. The card presence indicator is a solution that combines both possibilities.
Card presence indicator appears in card activity stream. Each user has their own presence indicator marked with their avatar. It indicates their last visit to the card. This allows you to find out who has seen recent card activity.
If the user is currently in a card, their avatar will have a flashing blue border.
Card visitors
There is a simple way to see all overtime visitors of the card. Additionally, you can check the dates of their visits.
To see card visitors:
- Open the card.
- On the card users section, select the monitor icon.
When someone is present in a card at the same time as you, it will be visible in the card users field too. The icon with an eye on a monitor icon will also be blinking blue.
You can hover over the date below the user's name to see the exact date and time of their last visit.
Having visual confirmation that a colleague is present in the same moment in the same work context as you, provides a higher level of transparency and confidence that your team is actively working toward a common goal.
Tips & tricks
How do card presence indicators affect team communication? Let’s analyze the following example.
Example: Alexander did not see Megan’s last comment related to his work. The event is tomorrow and we don’t know if the barbecue stuff is prepared.
Are we sure Alexander didn’t see it? He could have read it from the notification level, if he followed the card, or from the space activity stream. To avoid such unclear situations, he should enter the card after reading the comment.
It is a good practice to visit the card to confirm that you have read the message.
Okay, but we still don’t know the stage of his work. What can we do now?
There are two ways to check Alexander’s task completion:
- We can mention him in a new comment to make sure he gets a notification.
- We can notify him in Microsoft Teams.
To notify a user in Teams, go to their avatar, and then select Notify in Teams.
